Has any NFL team gone undefeated?
Once, all the way — and the whole list fits on one page. Each season below is drawn the way this game prints its own result cards: one cell per game, green for a win, gold for a postseason win, red for the loss that ends the story.
The only perfect season in NFL history — fourteen regular-season wins, two playoff wins, and the title game, none dropped. Every gold cell is a postseason win.
The only 16-0 regular season ever played. Two more wins in the playoffs — and the one red cell at the end is the championship game. Eighteen and one.
Pro football’s other perfect run: 14-0 in the All-America Football Conference, then the title game won. The NFL absorbed the franchise two years later.
Unbeaten and untied through thirteen, then lost the championship game. The same story struck the same franchise in 1942: 11-0, then a title-game defeat.
The other kind of perfect. Sixteen games, sixteen losses — matched by Cleveland in 2017. The strip nobody wants to print.
Why 17-0 still hasn’t happened
The regular season grew to seventeen games in 2021, and nobody has run the new table: the best 17-game record so far is 15-2, set in 2024, and three different teams finished 14-3 in 2025. Before the modern era, the earliest leagues saw unbeaten seasons with ties — Akron’s 8-0-3 in 1920, Canton’s 10-0-2 and 11-0-1 back to back, Green Bay’s 12-0-1 in 1929 — champions all, from the years before a championship game existed.

Questions people actually ask
Perfect seasons, answered straight
QHas any NFL team ever gone undefeated?
Once, all the way: Miami went 17-0 in 1972 — a 14-0 regular season, two playoff wins, and the title game — still the only perfect season in NFL history. Cleveland ran a 15-0 season in the AAFC in 1948 before that league folded into the NFL.
QHas any NFL team gone 17-0?
Not in the 17-game era. The schedule grew to seventeen games in 2021, and nobody has run it: the best record since is 15-2, set in 2024, with three teams reaching 14-3 in 2025. Miami’s 17-0 in 1972 came as 14 regular-season games plus three postseason wins.
QWhich teams went undefeated but did not win the title?
Chicago did it twice — 13-0 in 1934 and 11-0 in 1942 — and lost the championship game both times. New England went 16-0 in 2007, won two playoff games, and lost the final: 18-1. An unbeaten season with the last game lost is the sport’s cruelest scoreline.
QHas a team ever gone 0-16?
Twice: Detroit in 2008 and Cleveland in 2017. Both finished a sixteen-game schedule without a win.
QCould an all-time roster actually go 17-0?
That’s this game. Spin real franchise eras, draft twelve seats from their actual rosters, and the season simulates week by week — 17-0 is the regular season run clean, 20-0 adds the playoffs. About 1 in 20 finished boards prints it.
